ARCHIVED - 24 Cartagena beaches awarded the Q Turistica quality certificate
Two tourist offices in the Murcia municipality also received the 'S Tourism Sustainability' award

Right before the official Easter celebrations get underway in the Region of Murcia, 24 beaches and two tourist offices in Cartagena have been awarded the prestigious 'Q tourism' and 'S Tourism Sustainability' certificates on Tuesday March 28.
The hospitality industry along the coastal resorts is already expecting a bumper Holy Week, perhaps more than it can handle given the staff shortages across the country, but several holiday hotspots have been recognised at an award ceremony chaired by the top names in the business.
Specifically, the beaches of Cala Cortina, Playa de Levante in Cabo de Palos, Playa del Banco Perdido, Playa del Galúa and Playa de San Ginés in La Azohía have obtained both distinctions, the 'Q Turística' and 'S Sostenibilidad Turística,' while the tourist offices of La Manga del Mar Menor and the Palacio Consistorial were granted the 'Q Turística'.
In addition, Playa Paraíso, Playa Honda, Playa del Cavanna, Playa de la Gola, Mar de Cristal, Levante-Islas Menores and Cala del Pino were awarded the ‘Q Turística’ certs while the beaches of Cala del Barco (pictured), Cala Túnez, Playa de Calnegre, Calnegre, Playa de la Chapineta, Playa del Portús, Playa del Cuartel and Playa Isla Plana have received 'S Tourism Sustainability'.
The Councillor for Tourism, Cristina Pérez, expressed her pride in this recognition that "accredits the excellence and sustainability of our beaches".
"From the very beginning, we have wanted to offer natural and unique spaces to Cartagena residents and visitors, but with the inalienable premise of respecting, above all, the environment."
"We wanted to bet on sustainability as a differentiating element of our tourist offer," she said, "with prestigious seals such as the 'S Sustainability of Tourism' with the aim of continuing to advance in the responsible and sustainable development of our tourism."
The highly sought-after certification is granted once beaches meet a number of important criteria, such as having drinking water, footbaths, toilets and plenty of litter bins for the use of bathers, as well as accessible walkways, ramps, picnic and shaded areas, and restaurants.
