Two Bulgarians have been arrested in connection to drugs, which are now being held in the Region of Murcia
In an anti-drug trafficking operation, the Policía Nacional intercepted a boat around 67 miles off Cartagena’s coast and seized almost 5,000 kilos of hashish. Two Bulgarian nationals were arrested as a result and the authorities believe that they form part of a larger-scale European maritime drug smuggling organisation. The boat used was a sporting sailboat, the Floriana, which is registered in Poland. After investigating further, it was discovered that the boat was previously named Salacia and had been registered in the Netherlands. This vessel had previously been linked to drug trafficking in 2020, and the criminals had changed the name and country of the boat in an effort to misdirect the police. However, the boat was detected in waters off the Balearic Islands and police had been tracking the boat via sea and air since then. On November 20, police confirmed definitively that the boat was carrying illegal substances and the following day, on November 21, officers boarded the vessel and found 139 packages containing 4,760 kilos of hashish. The two detainees have been arrested on suspicion of smuggling and crimes against public health and they were taken to the nearest port, in Cartagena, along with their illegal cargo.Images: Policía Nacional
