ARCHIVED - Balearic Islands prohibit consumption at the bar in Mallorca and Ibiza
Capacity in gyms and numbers of guests at weddings and social gatherings in Mallorca and Ibiza are also reduced
Yesterday the Canary islands announced the re-opening of a safe travel corridor between the islands, the UK and Germany and the Balearic Islands are keen to also reduce their own covid numbers as rapidly as possible in order to regain some winter tourism trade.
The Balearic Government has announced that it will prohibit, from this Saturday, in Mallorca and Ibiza the use of the bar in bars and restaurants and the maximum number of people per table will be six. In addition, the capacity will be reduced to 30% in sports centers and the number of attendees at weddings will be at most 25 people indoors and 50 outdoors.
At a press conference, the Minister for Health and Consumption, Patricia Gómez, and technical advisor Margalida Frontera, have analyzed the epidemiological situation and have announced new restrictive measures for Mallorca and Ibiza due to the evolution of the pandemic that will be applied, after they are published on Saturday in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB).
In the social and family sphere, gatherings will be reduced to a maximum of six people, except in the case of cohabiting people. The maximum capacity of places of worship will be 30% and, in addition, Frontera has detailed that singing will not be allowed. The Government has advised that no celebrations be held at work, especially if they are accompanied by the consumption of food or beverages. In any case, if they are held, they will be subject to the maximum limit of six people.
Regarding shopping centers, the capacity in common spaces is reduced to 50% and in commercial establishments the sale of alcohol is prohibited after 10 pm.
At the same time that restrictions were announced in Mallorca and Ibiza, those of Formentera were relaxed. Likewise, the Minister of Health has reported that they will follow the measures that govern the Balearic Islands, approved on October 9th.
