ARCHIVED - Cartagena Council installs cameras in Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Playa Honda
The council has used the Wi-Fi infrastructure to give a live video feed to the town hall
Cartagena Council has installed video cameras to monitor the condition of the Mar Menor and weather conditions, taking advantage of the free Wi-Fi infrastructure now covering the beaches of Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Playa Honda.
"The cameras have been placed on the same posts erected by the City Council in Los Urrutias, Los Nietos and Playa Honda to place the Wi-Fi antennas, taking advantage of the exisiting structures to send the images live via the internet directly to the town hall," explained deputy mayor and head of the municipal commission of the Mar Menor, Noelia Arroyo.
The City Council installed these infrastructures last August, as a pilot project of the European Wifi4Eu program. The antennas, located on the local social in Los Urrutias, on the Los Nietos yacht club and on the Playa Honda promenade, offer a free internet connection with a speed of 30 megabytes within a radius of 200 meters.
The Vice-Mayoress maintains that they will help the council to monitor the condition of the Mar Menor and will be used to help understand what is happening in the eventuality of a severe weather event.
