Felled trees, hailstones and blocked roads after massive storm in Murcia
Northern Murcia suffered storm damage and flooding in some areas this Saturday

The storm that crossed Spain this Saturday June 8 and put the north of the Region of Murcia on weather alert has delivered large quantities of much-needed rain to areas that have not seen nearly enough of it this year, but also caused damage and flooding in some places.
Rain gauges belonging to the Meteorological Association FrostSE and the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura water authority show that more than 40 litres of rain per square metre fell in a very short time, with peaks of as much as 10 litres in the space of just a few minutes in places like Mula and Jumilla. This is good news for the reservoirs that provide water for local communities, of course, and for fields of crops that have not been receiving as much water as they need.
However, hailstones brought along with the storm have also reportedly damaged more than 1,500 hectares of fruit trees in Cieza and Calasparra.

There were also fallen trees and flooding in some houses in Calasparra, Moratalla, Caravaca and the higher-altitude towns in the municipality of Lorca.

A lightning bolt also felled a tree on the RM-714 Venta del Olivo-Calasparra road, blocking traffic in one direction.
Some of the streets in Moratalla and Calasparra turned into veritable rivers due to the heavy rainfall throughout the afternoon.
Between 2pm and 8pm this Saturday, the Emergency Coordination Centre 112 received a total of 30 calls pertaining to 27 separate issues related to the rain and storms, 11 of which were in Calasparra and seven in Cieza.
