ARCHIVED - Hospitalisations drop but fatalities rise: Andalusia Covid update August 11
There are now only 506 patients hospitalised in Andalucia but another 44 people have lost their lives
The Community of Andalucia has registered an unfortunate upswing in Covid-related fatalities this week but maintains the lowest cumulative incidence rate in the entire country by far, a status it has held through most of the seventh wave.
Coronavirus infections
The regional health authorities in Andalucia registered a total of 1,367 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday August 9, 839 of which were diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
This brings the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,589,010.
Cumulative incidence rate
The cumulative incidence rate at 14 days is well under the Spanish national average of 336.05 cases, today standing at 207.09 infections per 100,000 inhabitants. This is a steady drop of 19.55 points since the last update.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
Andalusia has registered ten fewer hospitalised patients than last Friday, so that the figure stands at 506, while admissions to intensive care units remain at 25.
By provinces, Malaga registered 107 hospitalised patients, of which five are in the ICU, followed by Seville, with 96 admitted and one in the ICU; Cádiz, with 63 and six in the ICU; Jaén, with 60 admitted, four of whom are in the ICU; Huelva, with 55 hospitalisations, five in the ICU; Granada with 49, three in ICU; Córdoba, with 47, two in the ICU; and Almería, with 29, two in the ICU.
Sadly, the number of Covid-related fatalities has increased by 44, reaching 14,849 deaths since the start of the health crisis.
Of the total death toll, Seville with 3,214 fatalities overall, four more this week, remains the province with the most deaths, followed by Malaga with 2,583 (nine more), Granada with 2,250 (four more), Cádiz with 1,910 (two more), Córdoba with 1,539 (12 more), Jaén with 1,512 (11 more), Almería with 1,308 (two more) and Huelva with 533, had not added any additional deaths.
Vaccination data
As for vaccines, up until Monday August 8 Andalusia had administered 18,690,939 doses, 10,571 more in the last week, while 7,461,833 are now double jabbed. In addition, a total of 4,464,166 people have had third doses.
This means that 88% of the population of Andalucia is fully vaccinated.
