ARCHIVED - Murcia Covid update 17th June 2021: only 9 intensive care patients as a 10-month low is reached
Hospital Covid wards empty as the number of vaccine doses administered tops 1 million
The latest data published on Thursday 17th June by the regional government confirm that the rate of coronavirus infection in Murcia appears to have stabilized in “low risk” territory, with the 14-day accumulated incidence rate remaining slightly below the threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Thursday’s bulletin reports a further 60 confirmed cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, 27 of them in the municipality of Murcia along with 4 each in Los Alcázares, La Unión and Cartagena, 3 in Jumilla and Lorca and 2 each in Cieza, Molina de Segura and San Pedro del Pinatar. The positive results were returned from a total of 2,595 PCR tests, giving a positivity rate of 2.3 per cent.
The number of Covid patients receiving hospital treatment now stands at 30, having fallen from 35 the day before, and there are only 9 in intensive care units as vaccination continues to reduce the severity of reported cases: this is the lowest figure since early last August.
In addition, there have been no further Covid-related fatalities in Murcia for 6 days, the total since the pandemic began remaining at 1,605.
Perhaps more importantly, as the immunization campaign continues to progress rapidly, the number of known active cases in the Region is still just below 500 at 499, a level which has been achieved this week for the first time since July last year, when Spain was still emerging from its first strict pandemic lockdown.
Latest data as reported on Thursday 17th June 2021:
New cases reported in the last 24 hours: 60
Confirmed cases since the outbreak of the pandemic: 113,882
Active cases: 499
Patients in home isolation with mild symptoms: 469
Hospital patients: 30
Patients in ICU: 9
Total cured: 111,778
Total deaths: 1,605
Vaccination in the Region of Murcia as per the Ministry of Health update 17th June:
People with at least one vaccine dose: 668,157 (44.2% of the population)
People fully vaccinated: 388,174 (25.7% of the population)
