October 31 to November 3 Guided visits to the municipal cemetery of Mazarron
Insights into the history of Mazarrón through the last resting places of those who built the town’s prosperity
The main cemetery of Mazarrón is not only a last resting place for the deceased, but also a site which allows insights into the historical and artistic heritage of the town as well as the values and beliefs of the 19th and 20th centuries.
In late October and early November Jumilla joins with the rest of Spain in celebrating All Saints and All Souls and to coincide with this, free guided tours of the municipal cemetery are being held on October 31, November 1 and November 3. Far from being a macabre visit this is a great chance to learn more about the rich cultural heritage and the historical value of the burial ground, which contains the mortal remains of various of those involved in the economic prosperity brought to Mazarrón by the mining industry in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The timetable for visits, which last approximately 90 minutes, is as follows:
Thursday October 31: 20.30 and 21.15
Friday November 1: 10.00 and 12.00
Sunday November 3: 10.00 and 12.00
Prior registration is required by telephone on 659 081209 on weekdays between 10.00 and 14.00. Participants will meet at the main entrance to the cemetery (click here for map) and for the evening visits on October 31 a torch is needed.
