Polish criminal on Most Wanted list has been captured in Murcia

The captured fugitive led a criminal organisation dedicated to international drug trafficking

A Polish man who was on the police force’s Most Wanted list has been detained in Murcia. Marek Dawid Legiec handed himself over to the police after he had been on the run from the authorities in Spain. He was wanted from allegedly being the head of an organisation dedicated to international drug trafficking.

Marek’s operations had branches in Spain, Germany and Poland and he was wanted back home in his native country. It was the Polish authorities that had informed the Spanish police that he was hiding out there.

Marek was a known drug trafficker and had reportedly made shipments of over 1 million euros. Once the Polish authorities were aware of his dealings they went after him. However, once in Spain it was the Spanish authorities who pursued Marek.

However, from the beginning of the investigation, the agents realised that the fugitive took great security measures to avoid being discovered, using fictitious names and changing residence on numerous occasions. After exhausting the usual avenues of investigation, the agents decided to include him in the “10 Most Wanted” campaign.

This campaign aims to obtain all possible information on the fugitives from regular people and anonymous tip-offs through its dissemination in the media and the social networks of the National Police. All of the press caused by this campaign led to the man handing himself at a Murcia police station, as he had apparently been unable to move around so easily with all the attention on him and it had made his ability to live very difficult.
