ARCHIVED - Property prices rise faster in Murcia than anywhere else in Spain
The Costa Cálida market recovers from the pandemic faster than in other regions of Spain
The Spanish government’s quarterly house price index data for the first three months of 2021 was published this Tuesday and showed an increase of just 0.9 per cent in the average sale prices of residential properties throughout the country over the last 12 months.
This is the least significant year-on-year increase since autumn 2014 and comes despite a 0.5 per cent rise during the quarter, although the breakdown of data also shows that the average sale price of newbuilds rose by 2.3 per cent.
2020 ended with the price index rising by 2.1 per cent, its slowest rise in six years, although the year marked by the pandemic did at least end with the 5th consecutive rise.
On the other hand, there is considerable variation among Spain’s 17 regions, and in Murcia the index rose by a healthy 3.5 per cent between March 2020 and March 2021. Increases of over 2 per cent are also reported in Asturias, Castilla y León, Cantabria and Galicia, while at the other end of the scale is Extremadura with a decrease of 0.2 per cent.
