ARCHIVED - Slight uptick in hospital pressure: Murcia Covid update August 4
The cumulative incidence rate in Murcia has dipped once more to stand at 568 cases
The rollercoaster that is the coronavirus pandemic continues in the Region of Murcia: at the beginning of the week, health care workers breathed a sign of relief as both hospitalisations and ICU admissions took a welcome nosedive, only to jump up again on Wednesday August 3.
Despite this, daily infections continue to fall steadily and the 14-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped, coming very close to the national average.
Coronavirus infections
The Region of Murcia has registered 416 new cases of coronavirus since the last update, 199 of which were recorded on Wednesday August 3, a good decrease on the 269 infections registered in the last health report.
This brings the overall number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 450,256.
Of the total cases, 80,541 have been diagnosed in people over the age of 60.
Cumulative incidence rate
The latest data provided by the regional health authorities on Tuesday show that the 7-day cumulative incidence rate has dropped even further to stand at 253.62 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
The average incidence over a two-week period also reflects this slowdown, decreasing significantly from 634.04 cases last Monday to 568.51 today.
This brings the Region of Murcia very close to the Spanish national average, which is currently at 475.95 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Hospitalisations and fatalities
There has been a slight up-tick in hospital pressure in last few days: There are currently 281 people hospitalised for Covid in Murcia, compared to 229 on Monday, 15 of whom are being treated for more serious conditions in the Region’s ICUs (an increase of 6 patients).
Three more Covid-related fatalities have been registered, bringing the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis to 2,380
Covid testing
The Region of Murcia has carried out 3,097,435 PCR and antigen coronavirus detection tests.
Vaccination data
Since the last update, 91.81% of the entire population of the Murcia Region has had a least one dose. In addition, 84.81% of people are now double jabbed.
