Work gets underway on new Corvera health centre

In just over a year and with an investment of more than 4.5 million, Corvera will open the doors of its brand new health centre. Spanning around 3,000 square metres, the facilities will cater for more than 12,000 patients from health area 1, in the Murcian districts of Avileses, Baños y Mendigo, Corvera, Gea y Truyols, Lobosillo, Los Martínez del Puerto, Sucina and Valladolises.

The building will replace the existing Primary Care centre which is located in “an area in full expansion, due to its good connection with Murcia and Cartagena and the proximity of the airport,” according to regional health minister Juan José Pedreño, who added that the extra capacity has been designed specifically “to respond to the increase in population.”

The Corvera health centre will house four Family Medicine consultations; four for Nursing; two multi-purpose consultations; rooms for extractions, special techniques and material sterilisation; a Paediatric consultation room; another for Paediatric Nursing; a paediatric observation room; an office for the Social Worker; and emergency area with a triage room, consultation room and an observation room.

In addition, it will add a Women's Care Unit to its portfolio of services, which will include a midwife’s office, bathrooms and changing rooms, as well as another multi-purpose area.

Visiting the site of the future medical centre this week the minister concluded that "it will be a modern and more comfortable health centre for professionals and patients, where it will be possible to develop a comprehensive care program without restrictions on space or equipment."
